![]() ![]() "It means the world to a little kid growing up not too far from here to come play this amazing stadium. Smith had even more to say at the show's close. It's an underappreciated facet of one of the most California-synonymous bands of all-time that half its roster hails from the Mitten State, and the homecoming love was in the air all night long: "Thank you Michigan!" bassist Flea said early in the evening. Smith's mom was not the only Red Hot Chili mama at the show Margaret "Peggy" Nobel, the mother of Grand Rapids-born singer Anthony Kiedis, was also watching from side stage. She waved to the fans who roared and cheered back, a fitting close for the biggest concert Smith and his Chili Peppers cohorts have ever played in the Motor City, in front of 34,000 fans at the Detroit Tigers' home. With the stadium's houselights up and his bandmates already offstage, Smith ran to the side area and brought his mother, who uses a wheelchair and was clutching one of her son's drumsticks across her chest, out to the center of the stage. Sunday night's Red Hot Chili Peppers concert at Comerica Park ended on an emotional note, with Bloomfield Hills-raised Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith thanking the audience and bringing his 95-year-old "all time f-ing rocker" mother, Joan Smith, out in front of the crowd. Wifey had secret pics she took of me with just full on waterworks.View Gallery: Red Hot Chili Peppers play Comerica Park Couldn’t hold it back at times(both shows) - whew. And I didn’t know what was going to happen - but the tears came on strong. I’ve waited so so many years to see this again. Sorry… had to edit bc I totally forgot to mention. Much (unlimited) love from Alabama □□□✌️ thanks to my wife, who knows my deep love for this band (and John being back). That’s the first time I’ve ever done anything “fancy” in my life. Lastly - got to experience the VIP lounge and that was dope. I will say no regrets- but may should have left the wallet in the car □ 2 hoodies, 2 shirts, a hat, and some shorts later □! But good quality and I’m loving it. It was super exciting to hear Heavy Wing as well. I was hoping for a Don’t Forget Me between the 2 nights… but all was good. Looks like it was a good show! ATL and the ‘Ville were killer. I felt like maybe they were holding out just a tad for Detroit. I just recently attended Atlanta & Nashville. This was one of the coolest things I’ve ever experienced and I hope they do another tour in the near future :)Īwesome. Great vocals from John and Anthony.īy The Way was also very good. The crowd singing along to Under The Bridge was mesmerizing to listen to. Flea came back on stage doing a fucking handstand and it was really funny. Give It Away was possibly their best song of the night. The stadium really came alive during Black Summer.Ĭalifornication took like seven minutes because John’s guitars kept breaking. John’s vocals during the chorus were AMAZING! Easily their best performance of it live so far. The Heavy Wing is probably my least listened song from UL, but that is 100% going to change after their performance of it last night. It was really cool to hear the stadium erupt when he came back with a new one. I think one was during Aquatic, and then during Californication. Nobody Weird Like Me was super cool to here, along with Tell Me Baby. ![]() Never really listened to it, but I’m sure it’ll become one of my favorites. I didn’t recognize I Like Dirt last night but as soon as I heard the chorus, my brain exploded.Īmazing to hear Don’t Forget Me. Wish it’d been Can’t Stop, but what was I gonna doĭani California was the third Chili Peppers song I ever listened to, and it sounded great live.
